Position Summary

The Project Developer role is a full-time position that will represent Middle River Power in all development-related activities and serve as an integral team member to support the development of thermal electricity generation, solar, and energy storage projects to power data center facilities, primarily focused in the Western US/ CAISO region.

Overview of our Hiring Process 

We take a progressive approach to our interview process. Which means that we don’t keep the application window open long and get you right into panel conversations with those you will be working with day-to-day. Final round interviews are usually held onsite and include members of our leadership team. In some situations, we will ask candidates to complete a project or build a presentation when it is relevant to the job. Our commitment is to be timely and value your time while you are in conversations with MRP. 

Work Location

To foster a collaborative culture, we aim to place roles within one of our office locations. In some cases, we may create remote roles when it makes sense for business. Frequency and location of travel for team meetings and job duties will vairy by role. MRP is an in-office 4 days a week organization. 

Compensation

$150,000-$165,000 and eligible for an annual target bonus of 20% of base salary.  MRP builds is compensation packages to reward and recognize high-performing talent. Base salary ranges are designed to be competitive by market and take into consideration individual experience, technical skills and long-term career growth. Each employee is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on their level and company annual performance metrics.

Key RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the end-to-end development process for thermal electricity generating sites and renewable energy facilities such as solar and battery energy storage.
    • The development process includes site selection, design, construction, and commissioning, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and technical specifications.
  • This position will have day-to-day responsibility for supporting schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project is completed in the most cost-effective, timely, and competitive manner to include:
    • Daily activities associated with development planning, design, engineering, environmental, licensing, permitting, and procurement.
    • Managing timely completion within the scheduled and budgetary constraints in compliance with applicable technical requirements and all regulatory requirements
    • Support financial analysis as it relates conceptual designs, construction and operating budgets. The Project Developer can work with little direct supervision in accomplishing their tasks.
    • Management of subcontractor schedules and critical deliverable review.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to identify locations with optimal power availability, network connectivity, cooling infrastructure, and zoning compliance for electrical generation development.
    • Perform prospecting and scoping activities, including cold calls and arranged meetings.
    • Identify land acquisition opportunities.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to obtain necessary permits, environmental approvals, and incentives for energy projects, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to tariff rules when working with utilities.
  • Support activities necessary for financing, such as diligence data room population, contract exhibit generation, and negotiations.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and risk assessments, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays, cost overruns, or technical issues.
  • Support financial analysis and modeling for data center projects, including capital expenditure (CapEx), operational expenditure (OpEx), and return on investment (ROI) calculations.
  • Assist development team in preparation of marketing and generation of off-take (PPA) proposals.
  • Monitor construction and commissioning phases, ensuring adherence to safety standards, quality control, and project milestones, including rigorous testing of power and cooling systems.
  • Provide regular reports to management and external stakeholders, such as financiers or government entities, detailing project status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Travel as needed to project sites, vendor meetings, or industry events to support development activities (approximately 30-40% travel expected).

Qualifications & Experience

  • An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or similar experience in Energy Development, Sustainability, Community Development, Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, business, finance, or data center operations is preferred (not required).
  • Experience in the energy industry or data center development is preferred.
  • $10MM+ contract negotiation experience
  • Candidate should have 3+ years of experience developing conventional or renewable energy projects within the United States or project management of large, complex capital projects.
  • Familiarity with utility-scale energy energy technologies.
  • Can demonstrate excellent writing skills, is detail-oriented, critically-minded, and deadline-conscious.
  • Can tailor communications for varied audiences, from financial stakeholders to engineering and data center operations teams.
